This web site is a public forum for people to voice their appreciation for the work of our leaders, but also to air complaints about the hierarchy of the Antiochian Orthodox church in Australia, New Zealand & the Philippines. We hope to promote accountability, and transparency, for the glory of God and for the health of His Church.
Infallibility was a mouthful for Saint Peter
The Orthodox Church has always vehemently objected to the notion that any leader in the church is infallible. Decisions are always made by councils of bishops and synods, and no one man can control the fate of The Church Universal. All too often, however, bishops in the Orthodox Church seem to develop the belief that they are beyond reproach and that their decisions should not be questioned. This belief, while clearly untrue, probably stems from a misguided view that because the Holy Spirit guides bishops they are therefore incapable of error. While the Holy Spirit’s guidance of our leaders is something we all should trust and believe in, it is foolish to believe that human beings will not stumble and fall on occasion. Even Saint Peter, a disciple of Christ and the first bishop of Rome, denied Christ three times before the Rooster crowed.
You won’t make Bishops accountable just by watching them
Ok, so aside from the obvious Federal government “Fuel watch” reference here, the point is that we’re not trying to undermine our bishops. The goal of this site is to create a place where the actions and decisions of our current and future bishops will be brought to light for all to see. Truth loves the light, and The Truth, Jesus Christ himself, told us all to “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.” (Mark 15:16). That’s what we want our bishop to lead us towards, and we think that’s what he wants to do as well. This common ground is where we will begin to build the foundation of our attempt to increase accountability in our Church.
